2008 WASL - Freshman Registration |
| All students in the state of Washington are now expected to meet standard on the Washington Assessments of Student Learning in reading, writing, and mathematics (or meet mathematics alternatives) in order to be eligible for a Washington State high school diploma. Achieving passing scores on the WASL tests is one of three new state graduation requirements students are expected to complete prior to earning a high school diploma. The new graduation requirements apply to all students who first entered the 9th grade after July 1, 2004. Because WASL tests are not administered in the 9th grade, freshmen are given the option to take one or more of the 10th grade reading, writing, or mathematics WASL tests. The state provides this opportunity to all 9th graders so that, if they feel comfortable and prepared, they can get one or more of the WASL tests “out of the way.” A student who wants to take a WASL test as a 9th grader will take the same test and use the same testing dates as all other high school students. Students who pass any WASL test in their freshmen year will not be required to take that test again. In order to register for any of the spring 2008 WASL tests, freshmen will need to first obtain their ten digit "State Student Identifier" (SSID) from a teacher or counselor. Without this number, students will not be able to register for tests. Once students have obtained their SSID, they will need to either visit the State's registration website (http://www.k12.wa.us/waslregistration) or they may register via the toll-free telephone line 1-866-400-WASL (9275) between 8 am and 5 pm. The deadline for registration is January 14th at 5pm. Students are reminded that testing dates are fixed and mandatory - this year, the reading and writing tests will be administered March 10 - 13 and the mathematics test will be administered April 15 and 16. Students or parents that have questions regarding WASL registration may either contact Jeff Dunn at Deer Park High School (464-5942) or Travis Hanson at Deer Park's District Office (464-5509). |
